Three Key Elements to Consider When Planning Your Branding Photo Session

Branding Photos are very important in Business today.  With the increased need for a library of images for marketing, a Branding Session with a professional Photographer just makes sense.  But what are some of the key elements to consider when planning your Branding Photo Session with your Photographer?

Of course, it is very important to first think about the message you want to convey and how you want your target audience to perceive that message.  How do you want potential clients to feel when they think of your brand?  Thinking about this ahead of your shoot will pay large dividends down the road.  That is why I love talking to my clients ahead of the Session with a Brand Consultation.

Planning Your Branding Photo Session

Here are a three key elements to consider when planning your branding photo session:

  1. Authenticity Is Key: People naturally want to connect with real, genuine moments. With that in mind, how can you show the true essence of your brand. Do you want to feel approachable, professional, or creative—or a mix of some or all of the above?  Expressions, colors, and locations–all of these can lend authenticity in a subtle way.
  2. Consistency Is Key: Look at your brand aesthetic.  Ideally, your photos should align with your overall brand aesthetic—colors, fonts, and style. Is your brand cozy and relaxed, bold and modern, or bright and airy?  If you maintain consistency, it will help solidify your brand in consumers’ minds.
  3. Context Is Key: Will showing your environment or how you work help to better tell your  story?  Context can work especially well for creators and coaches but can really be a plus for any brand.  Viewers love to see Behind the Scenes or sneak peeks.  Context is linked to Authenticity.

Incorporating Key Elements in Your Branding Photo Session

So how can we incorporate these key elements in your Branding Photo Session?

  1. Planning Your Branding Photo Session

Movement or Activity can all help communicate your brand. Be sure to think about that when planning your branding photo session.

Expression: Again, think about how you want people to perceive your brand.  This will be different for every business.  For example, a law firm or financial advisor will want to be seen very differently than an artist or a life coach.  Elements like facial expression and body language can subtly communicate core values to the viewer.

  2. Color: If you know me at all, you know how important I believe color is.  Using your brand colors in your wardrobe or props in branding photos can subliminally enhance your message.
  3. Action: Viewers like to see movement or action in a Behind the Scenes context.  Drawing back the curtain on where you work and how you work can be very powerful if done intentionally and well.  This ties back to Authenticity—but it definitely needs to appear natural and within the context of your business and what you are doing.
